  • THROUGH AUGUST 1: The 2023-24 school year will be here before we know it and ESS is excited to help students learn and grow. ESS is an educational staffing company supporting school districts in Westmoreland, Armstrong, and Allegheny counties. We assist schools with their daily, long-term, and permanent K-12 staffing needs and have employment opportunities for almost everyone with a high school diploma, bachelor’s degree (regardless of major), or teaching certificate.  This is a great opportunity for recent college graduates and retirees alike. ESS offers training and is hiring now for the upcoming school year. 
  • AUGUST 7-11: Heritage Methodist Church will be hosting Hero Hotline, a Vacation Bible School program for children ages 3 to 5th grade. The program will run August 7th-11th from 9 AM-12:25 PM. For reservation information call the church at 724-238-2627. 
  • AUGUST 11: Get your poodle skirts ready! It’s time again for the Ligonier Stroll, Friday, August 11th. Stroll into the fabulous 50s with oldies music, dancing, live entertainment, and classic cars on the Diamond! 
  • AUGUST 12: The Ligonier Country Market and the Loyalhanna Watershed Association are sponsoring a Harvest Market Dinner and Dance on Saturday, August 12th to be held at the Country Market Grounds. Featured is the Bon Jovi and Journey  Tribute Band, Bon Journey. The event will benefit the Loyalhanna Watershed Association’s Community Education Programs. Tickets and parking are available for $5 per person and can be purchased online only through Eventbrite at https://harvestmarket2023.eventbrite.com
  • AUGUST 17: Westmoreland Performing Arts and the Ligonier Night Market present Books Come Alive on the patio of the Ligonier Valley Library. Stop by while shopping  at the Ligonier Night Market to see the 6 PM performance of The Velveteen Rabbit on August 17th.
  • AUGUST 18: Heritage Methodist Church will host the seminar Bringing the Bible to Life presented by Dr. John Delancy, director of Biblical Israel Ministries and Tours. The seminar will be on Friday, August 18th from 6:30- 9PM and Saturday August 19th from 8:30 AM- 1:30 PM at the Heritage Methodist Church. For more information, call 724-238-2627.
  • AUGUST 18: The 4th Annual Al Ludwig Memorial Fund Golf Classic and Family Fun Night will be held at Champion Lakes Golf Course in Bolivar on Friday, August 18th from 7-10 PM. The evening will provide free activities for the entire family. Then, there will be hole 11 AM shotgun start for the 18 hole scramble on Saturday, August 19th. All proceeds raised will provide scholarships and charitable assistance for Ligonier Youth.
  • AUGUST 18: Calling all photographers, the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce is seeking submissions for its 2024 Ligonier Valley Calendar Contest. Photos should be recognizable as scenic landscapes, events or landscapes in the Ligonier Valley and should be representative of all four seasons. Deadline for submissions is August 18th. Contact the Ligonier Valley Chamber office for entry guidelines.
  • AUGUST 20: It’s the return of Under the Stars, a performance by the Westmoreland County Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, August 20th from 5-8PM at the Ligonier Southern Allegheny Museum of Art. To find out more about this event, contact SAMA at 724-238-6015. 
  • AUGUST 25: Join CASA of Westmoreland by attending the 14th Annual Golf and Tennis Tournament on Friday, August 25th. Support children in Westmoreland County by joining us for a round of golf on the scenic Latrobe Country Club grounds or a tennis match at the Latrobe High School Tennis Courts!   • AUGUST 26: The Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce will host the 36th annual Antiques on the Diamond on Saturday, August 26th from 9AM- 3PM. Shop from a variety of antique dealers all around the Diamond in downtown Ligonier.
  • THROUGH SEPTEMBER: The Ligonier Night Market will be on every third Thursday of the month from June until September. Come shop the Ligonier Country Market vendors during the evening on the Diamond in Ligonier.
  • SEPTEMBER 23: The  Fort Ligonier VFW Post 734 will hold their annual pig roast on September 23rd from 1-6 PM. Musical entertainment and basket raffles will be provided. All proceeds will raise money for local Veteran’s and Veteran’s suicide prevention and awareness.

 

ONGOING EVENTS

  • CLASSIC CARS: Do you own an antique or classic car? Would you like to drive it more often on car cruises and unique tours? Join the Laurel Highlands Antique Auto Club. For more information, call Tom at 412-855-7887.
  • TEEN CENTER: The Teen Center at the Ligonier Valley YMCA offers a safe, friendly, casual atmosphere for teens ages 12-14. Games at the adult supervised center include X box, air hockey, ping pong, and an art table. It is a fun place for teens to hang out. 
  • KNIFTY KNITTERS: Knifty Knitters meets at the Adams Memorial Library in Latrobe every first and third Tuesday of every month. The group made up completely of volunteers, knits and crochets for various charities. New knitters are always welcome, regardless of experience. Members of the group will teach you.   • COMPASS INN VOLUTEERS: Are you passionate about history? Llove meeting and talking to people and looking for a way to get involved in your community, Consider becoming a volunteer docent for the Compass Inn. As a docent, you will dress in period clothing and share stories about the history of the Compass Inn and the colonial time period. Docents must be at least 18 years of age, obtain all mandated PA clearances and be available at least two days a month.   • LIGONIER LIBRAY CARDS FOR KIDS: The Ligonier Valley Library reminds you that when children turn five years of age they can receive their own library card. Stop in to the Ligonier Valley Library and register your child for  a passport for adventure.
