American life and radio in “The Valley.” |
The Fifties:
It all began with people like Chuck Berry,
Bill Haley, Elvis Presley and their contemporaries …
our grandfathers of Popular Rock Music. It began with radio
stations, slowly picking up the word and the enthusiasm
from the listeners. Rock radio pioneers like Alan Freed
made waves … airwaves. Music was changing, styles
were re-arranging. Blue jeans, poodle skirts, DAs, cruising
the block in your dad's car, the excitement of Friday night
sock hops … and it all was happening with the radio
on … it was the Music of the 1950s, the music that
changed our lives and was the foundation of today's Popular
Rock. You'll hear it all here on The Valley.
The Sixties:
The 1960s were a time a revolution for our
society. It was The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones
leading the charge in music. Their was Pop Art, Fashion
Art and a time of ant-war upheaval. All along the trip we
were branded by the music coming from our radios. The music
that changed our lives … and we have it here on LigonierRadio.com. Stay close … you're just a song
away from a journey back to the 1960s.
The Seventies:
It was bell bottoms, stadium rock shows,
balloon sleeve shirts and a bit of disco along the way …
it was the decade known as The Seventies. And while you
were having fun with click-clacks, drawing smiley faces
on your school notebooks … you heard the music from
radios everywhere. The singer-songwriters, the long-haired
groups on Don Krishner's Rock Concert TV show … there
was Wolfman Jack on syndicated radio and TV. We have those
classic hits that changed our lives … here on The
Valley.
The EIGHTIES:
The decade of big hair, bright colors and lots of electronic keyboard in somgs. Power ballads from big movies like Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, An Officer and a Gentleman. The Breakfast Club, The Karate Kid...Ligonior Radio's Ron Adams and Ursula could be heard doing the morning show on 107.1 in nearby Greensburg. The malls were the hang out and watch out for Cabbage Patch Doll holiday shopping! A lot of the great songs still live here on The Valley by people like Phil Collins, Kenny Loggins, The Bangles, Hall & Oates and more. |
AM RADIO LISTENING TIPS
1. If your radio has an AM antenna,
it is usually a loop on the back of the set … make
sure it's properly connected to the AM antenna terminals.
2. Often, moving the radio near a window or away from computers,
copiers, fluorescent lights, etc will greatly improve the
reception. Or, if possible, plug the radio into an outlet
that isn't shared with the above devices.
3. Try turning the radio in a perpendicular direction …
if your set has an internal antenna, moving the whole radio
can really improve your reception.
4. Put us on the first button of your car radio - AM 1620
- for running those errands around town!
5. And … come back here very soon to click and listen
on the computer. |
Enjoy some classic music
for a classic American Town!
