  • FEBRUARY 21: Powdermill Nature Reserve’s Nature at Night will be held on February 21 at 7 p.m. with a program titled “Starry, Starry Night.” Clear winter nights are perfect for stargazing. Come out to Powdermill and away from the city lights for some breathtaking night sky views. Participants will start with a presentation inside, so you won’t miss out even if it’s cloudy. If you have your own (already assembled) telescope, please feel free to bring it along. Contact Powdermill for more details on any of these activities at 724-593-6105.
  • FEBRUARY 22: The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art will host a Lunch a l’Art program with rug hooker Barb Carroll at noon on February 22.  Carroll, of Ligonier, is a nationally known rug hooker and the author of rug-hooking books. The cost for the program, which includes lunch and presentation, is $15 per person or $12 for SAMA members. Reservations are required by calling the Museum at 724-238-6015.
  • FEBRUARY 26 - MARCH 2: Covenant Christian Preschool of the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Ligonier will be holding an open house for prospective preschoolers and their parents the week of February 26th through March 2nd  from 9 AM-10:30AM and on March1st from 6PM-7PM.   • MARCH 9: The Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor is announcing a Round 2 funding opportunity for non-profit organizations and municipalities along the historic Lincoln Highway in Westmoreland, Somerset, Bedford, Fulton, Franklin and Adams Counties. Deadline for applications is March 9.  You can receive grant information and guidelines by calling Olga Herbert at 724-879-4241.
  • MARCH 10: The Ligonier Valley Library's Annual Children's Chess Tournament will be on March 10 at the Fort Ligonier Education Center, beginning at 10:30 am. The tournament is limited to children grades K-8 who live in the Ligonier Valley School District. Registration deadline is March 7. For  more information regarding the tournament call the library at 724-238-6451.
  • THROUGH MARCH 22: The Fort will run a 12 week program from January 4 through March 22 for homeschool students titled Why America Is Free. The program will take place on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon and is for students in grades 4 through 8. This program is an in-depth study of the 18th century. This exciting learning experience will cover the French and Indian War through the American Revolution. Students will develop an 18th century persona, become familiar with etiquette practices of the 1700s, learn a colonial dance and gain insight into the incredible odds colonists faced in gaining independence. Through weekly lessons and hands-on activities, they will be immersed in the time period to learn the content and guiding principles of the 18th century. The program ends with a culminating event: Patriot Day, where students and their families experience a day in the life as citizens of the colonial era.   • THROUGH MARCH 24: The Annual Ligonier Chamber of Commerce Soups On will be on March 24th. Visit Ligonier merchants while tasting soups from local restaurants. Tickets are $15 and will go on sale on February 1st. No tickets will be sold on the day of the event. Call the Chamber office at 724-238-4200 to order by credit card or stop in during business hours.
  • APRIL 14: The Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department is having a Cash Bash on Saturday, April 14th at St. Mary’s Dome in Latrobe. Doors open at 4 PM. Buffet style dinner and beverages are included. Tickets are $25. Call 724-539-9938 for tickets and information.
  • APRIL 22: Artists of the 21st Century: Student Art Exhibition , the Southern Allegheny Museum of Art’s annual student art exhibition will return from February 16th through April 22nd with shows at the Ligonier Valley and Loretto museums. The exhibitions feature hundreds of works created by students in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Somerset and Westmoreland counties. Open to schools that participate in SAMA’s Museum/School Partnership Program, the exhibitions offer children an opportunity to see their artwork professionally hung in a gallery.
  • MAY 21: The Area Christian Men’s Fellowship of the Christian Church of Waterford is sponsoring a soup dinner at 6 PM on May 21st with speaker Dave Kromel, who will topic will be Commit to Serve. RSVP by May 14th by calling 724-238-4733.
  • JUNE 15: Mark your calendars and save the date. The Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 7th Annual Golf Outing will be held at Champion Lakes Golf Course on June 15. More information regarding this event will be coming soon.

  • MEALS ON WHEELS: The Ligonier Valley Meals on Wheels seeks volunteers. For more than 40 years, Ligonier Valley Meals On Wheels has served home cooked meals, Monday through Friday, to valley residents who are frail elderly, handicapped and/or living with chronic illness. This success story is due to the commitment of approximately 100 volunteers each month. Right now Meals On Wheels is in need of new recruits in the kitchen. Can you give a few hours one day a week to help prepare a meal? You will join with seasoned volunteers whose work is directed by a kitchen coordinator..   • CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP SERVICE: Each Saturday evening at 6:00PM a contemporary worship service is held at Heritage United Methodist Church located on the diamond. The weekly service includes praises songs, prayer and a homily. The service is open to the community, visitors to our community and folks from all dominations.
